うまいくだもの園「ファームステイ体験記」No.2


　夏・秋に何度もファームステイに来てくれたＨ.史子さんからお便りが届きました。Ｈ.史子さんは山形大学農学部４年生。12年春に県内で新規就農することになってい て、しっかり夢を育てています。頑張って下さい。 
2000.03.01　春までもう少しというのに寒い日が続いていますが皆様おかわりなくお元気でお過 ごしの事と思います。沢山の方に応援してもらいながら山形に就農するチャンスを与えて頂いたことで感謝の気持ちで一杯です。少しずつ道 筋が見えてきましたが、同時に何かしていないとふとした事で不安になったりもします。やってみたい事は山ほどあります。決して焦ってい るつもりはないのですが、やはり少しでも先へと思ってしまい、やはり少し落ち着かないようです。楽しむ・好きだという思いと自分で選ぶと いうことを気を付けて大事にしてゆきたいです。
　春へ向けて花の種の準備の方はお忙しいのでしょうか。先日昔の雑誌の中で畑のあ ぜや木の元にいっぱいの花を咲かせた光景を見つけ ました。春から自分も自給及び練習用に畑を一角借ります。あぜや隅に花やハーブや 播いてみようと思いますが、つい「食べられるハーブ」 や「花も良いが実もおいしい」などの一文に引かれていまい、貧乏性というか、食い 意地が張っているというか・・・。さて、当面の目標は、花のある生活をできる程の余裕のある生活でしょうか。
　秋には、何かしら報告できるよう、頑張ってゆきたいと思います。まだ未熟者ですが、これからもどうぞよろしくお願い致します。

　平成11年夏休みにファームスティに来た千葉県の高校１年生Ｍ.小夜さんが、うまい くだもの園の農業体験を 英語弁論大会で発表したものです。 その原稿を送っていただきましたので皆さんも読んでみてください。
TITLE：Ｗｈａｔ　Ｉ　ｌｅａｒｎｅｄ　ｄｕｒｉｎｇ　ｍｙ　ｓｕｍｍｅｒ　ｖａ ｃａｔｉｏｎ
　Have you ever met a person that changed you a lot? I can't forget the experience I had during the summer vacation. I had wanted to try my hand at farming for a long time, and I found a place by using the internet. The family which I stayed with has a big orchard in Yamagata, the name of the owner is Mr.Narazaki. On August 22nd, I started out for Yamagata. I felt my heart beating with joy. The mountains and fields from the train window excited me a lot.
　When I arrived at Yamagata Station, Mr. Narazaki was waiting for me. It was our first meeting, but it didn't feel like that. On the way to his house from the station, he told me about Life on earth. Everything breathes the same air and lives together, so if we think that trees are the same as us, that is so say, living thing, we can better understand the heart of trees. What I learned from him made me think deeply about things. 
　When we arrived at his house, Narazaki's family gave me a warm welcome. Soon after lunch, we went to his orchard. I saw apple trees close up for the first time. My first job was to pick apple and peach leaves and to spread the mats out under peach trees. We did this to give more sunshine to the trees. This work is very important because without doing that fruits can't ripen so well.
　I was soon tired under the strong heat of the sun. Mr.Narazaki took care of me and he said "Do it at your own pace, and take a rest sometimes." If many people get to know how hard it is to nurture plants,they will economize on farm products more. I had thought apples would ripen naturally but it is not true. Between work breaks I often ate the fruit of the orchard. I picked one apple. it was small but very heavy. I took a bite, and my mouth was full of sweet and sour tastes.
　What moved me the most throughout this experience was tenderness of his family. They met me for the first time but they accepted me as their family. They always smile and help one another. My Narazaki treats everything and everyone as equals. So he understands the feelings of other people as well.
　I want to be kind to other people but in fact it is difficult to be so with my family. I am often too selfish. I have to have a broad mind to understand the feeling of other people. The fruit trees are grouth by people and the power of Nature, and similarly, we human beings can live in peace by helping each other. I am sure people can get something out of talking with other people. Because we are alive only for a short time, I want to try everything. As Mr.Narazaki directs his warm eyes to every living thing, I must try to become a better person like Mr.Narazaki.
　８月６〜８日までファームスティをした東京のＯＬ３人組の体験記をご紹介します。 今年は大変暑い夏でした。その中で今年植え付けた桃園の根元の草取りなどをしてもらいました。桃は実を付けるのが早く２年後から少しづつ収穫できると思います。収穫できるようになったら連絡するので来てもらうことにしています。その前にも、いつでも暇を作って来てもらいたいですね。 　元気でチャーミングな３人の健康とご多幸をおいのります。

　体験記 ◎　今日初めての草取りの体験をしました。顔から汗がポタポタと落ち、Ｔシャツも、ズボンも汗まみれ。でもこれで労働してるってことかな、なんて思いながら頭のなかにはＢｅｅｒがよぎったのは私だけ（？）そうかもね。 ◎　作業しているときは何にも考えていなかった。無心になっていたのか、草取りに夢中になっていたのか。普段、毎日の生活のなかで土の上を歩くこともないし草に触れることもなくて、手にカマを持って草取りをしている自分が不思議でした。◎　とてもいい経験をさせていただきありがとうございました。無心に草取りをしたり…これから又東京へ帰ったときにいい思い出になり、思いだすことでしょう。　夕焼けも（山へ）すごくきれいで…感動しました！！
